Introduction to the Rare Disease Community

The Nathan Centre was honoured and thrilled to be part of the “Introduction to the Rare Disease Community” event, held at Parliament House, Perth, Western Australia, on Wednesday 19th October, 2022. Our CEO Ms Monique Garcia and Dr Lois Balmer, our scientific advisor, represented the Nathan Centre. The event showcased nine Australian rare disease organisations to Members of Parliament. It was a fantastic, engaging, and interesting event, with so many MPs expressing genuine interest in the rare disease community. Our six ambassadors – Nathan, Ziya, Marc, Layla, Macy, and Zachy – were featured in colourful posters. We also brought Nathan’s “YEET” button along for the ride, gifted to him by his favourite youtuber Lazarbeam. Nathan would have been DELIGHTED to know our Premier, the honorary Mark McGowan, yeeted. The event was a huge success, raising the profile of rare diseases to those who can implement change.
